Candy Corn Sugar Cookies

A white square plate displays 10 candy corn sugar cookies. To the top left of the plate is a plastic skeleton hand and on the bottom right is another plastic skeleton hand. Under the plate is a sheer web-like black table cloth.

Candy Corn - the most controversial topic of Halloween.

Depending on who you talk to, some people think candy corn is the best thing since sliced bread...while others think it's bottom of the barrel candy. FORTUNATELY, I think most of us can agree on sugar cookies. ;)

These sugar cookies are such a cute treat to make for Halloween and yield roughly 60 small cookies! That's more than enough to share with friends at your upcoming Halloween party, or as a cute trick or treat loop bag for the special kiddos in your life.

No need to have heated debates about candy corn when you can make sugar cookies! Problem solved.

Visual Baking Instructions

If you're a visual learner like me, following a wordy recipe may not give you the whole picture (literally)!! Here are some visual baking instructions to help you make these sugar cookies!

Step 1: After mixing all your ingredients, kneading them into balls, adding food colouring, and then rolling them flat, stack the flattened balls of dough onto each other in the following order: white, orange, yellow.

A birds eye view of the stacked dough on a floured black countertop. The handle of a wooden rolling pin is seen in the top right corner of the image.

I cut off the edges to make it easier to work with, as you can see here:

A top view of the floured black countertop surface with the stacked dough; however, in this image the edges of the dough are cut so that it is rectangular.

Step 2: With your floured knife, slice about 1 cm wide strips of the slacked dough. Once you have cut the strips, place them on their side so that you can see all three colours. Then gently roll them out with a rolling pin.

Four strips of the dough on its side lay on a floured black countertop surface. In this image you can see all three colours, white, orange, and yellow in the sugar cookie strips.

Step 3: Cut the strips into triangles!

A progress picture - the top strip is uncut, while the two middle strips are cut into triangles. The bottom strip is cut into triangles and equally spread out.

Step 4: Toss the candy corn cookies in a small bowl with sugar.

Step 5: Add the cookies to the parchment lined baking sheet then bake in the oven for 8-10 minutes.

Raw candy corn, sugar coated cookies evenly lay on a parchment paper lined baking sheet prior to be placed in the oven.

Voila - you have plenty of candy corn sugar cookies to share with your family and friends! :)
